Rescue or Be Rescued

“Put your ear down to the Bible, and hear Him bid you go and pull sinners out of the fire or sin. Put your ear down to the burdened, agonized heart of humanity, and listen to its pitiful wail for help. Go stand by the gates of hell, and hear the damned entreat you to go to their father’s house and bid their brothers and sisters and servants and masters not to come there. Then look Christ in the face – whose mercy you have professed to obey – and tell Him whether you will join heart and soul and body and circumstances in the march to publish His mercy to the world.” William Booth

I was spellbound watching the TV account of a rescue unit risking their lives as rapidly rising water engulfed a lady trapped in her car. Just before the rushing floodwater swept the car downstream, the courageous rescue team pulled her to safety.

She had foolishly driven into rising water, creating her own nightmarish situation. But the brave, well-trained rescue unit faced the challenge and brought her to safety.

The Apostle Paul found himself on a perilous pathway walking toward Damascus. His poor choices hurled him headlong into an encounter with the living God. In over his head, God rescued Paul from his own foolish and destructive decisions. Later he became God’s instrument to rescue many others whose souls were in jeopardy.

Paul told the Church at Colossi, For he (God) has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves(Colossians 1:13).

The world is full of people trapped in the destructive dominion of darkness. Each of us is either in need of rescue or of joining a rescue team. Don’t allow this world’s drama to lull you into being merely a spectator. Courageously look for ways to help someone in need today.
