When His people are without strength, without resources, without hope, without human gimmicks – then He loves to stretch forth His hand from heaven. - Dale Ralph Davis
June is often associated with weddings. The term ‘June Bride’ has been with us since Roman times. Jesus attended a wedding – not sure if it was in June – that had the potential for disaster. The host was running out of wine; if that happened, he would have faced life-long humiliation for his grand social faux pas.
Mary asked Jesus to intervene. “Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.’” (John 2:3b) Before long, Jesus had resolved the issue with an abundance of excellent wine. The party went on, and the host’s reputation was saved.
Like the wedding host, sometimes we plan poorly, lack resources, and make bad choices. We all need help. When Jesus’ mother became aware of the looming crisis, she made a great decision – she asked Jesus to help. And that is where we need to turn as well.
When a crisis looms, whether because we planned poorly, are running low on resources, or have made sinful choices, the best place to turn is to Jesus. He may not resolve the problem the way we expect, but His power and love ensure that He will respond in a way that will be best for all.
