Mimicking Mother
“There is more power in a mother’s hand than in a king’s scepter.” -Billy Sunday
Did you know Mothers’ Day motivates more phone calls than any other holiday? In the United States, more flowers are sold to honor moms on Mothers’ Day than any other time of year. And card companies, well, they make a killing on Mothers’ Day!
Despite the various dates that commemorate moms around the world, most cultures set aside one day a year to honor their mothers with special love and affection.
Sacrificial, loving mothers leave indelible marks on their children and prepare them for healthy, godly lives of continued service and sacrifice.
The final verses of Proverbs describe the ideal character of a mother who lives life well.
“Her children arise and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all." Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.” (Proverbs 31:28-30)
All the magnificent traits of a Proverbs 31 mother boil down to the final phrase: a woman who fears the Lord. This year honor your mother with more than cards, flowers, and phone calls. In addition to those wonderful symbols of affection, replicate her life and fear the Lord.
