I Will Be With You

“Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.” - George Mueller

The children of Israel were being oppressed by the Midianites. They lived in fear and prayed for a deliverer.

God heard their prayers and intervened. “When the angel of the LORD appeared to Gideon, he said, "The LORD is with you, mighty warrior’” (Judges 6:12).

Gideon was skeptical and challenged both of the angel’s assertions. First, he questioned if the Lord was really with him. Was God truly concerned for his people? “‘But sir,” Gideon replied, "if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened to us? Where are all his wonders that our fathers told us about. . . now the LORD has abandoned us and put us into the hand of Midian.’”(Judges 6:13)

Second, he scoffed at his role as a mighty warrior. “‘But Lord,” Gideon asked, “how can I save Israel? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I am the least in my family.’” (Judges 6:15)

In response to both of Gideon’s challenges, “The LORD answered, “I will be with you.” (Judges 6:16)

If you are feeling like Gideon, abandoned in the face of overwhelming problems and inadequate to meet life’s challenges, remember the promise and trust the One who said, “I will be with you.”
