PREVIEW – This December we are walking through five Christmas related passages – but none from the familiar Gospel accounts. Last week we looked at Genesis, today Exodus, then Ruth, Haggai, and end the month in 1 Timothy. Enjoy a look at Christmas from some non-traditional passages.
Do you want to see something of the glory of God? Ah, now you do not look at the trailing edge of the afterglow of God’s glory as Moses peeps out. Now you look at the Son. For he, himself, is the radiance of God’s glory. - Don Carson

Moses’ life contained several striking parallels to Jesus’:
First, as babies their lives were threatened by ruthless monarchs. Pharaoh commanded all the Hebrew baby boys be put to death, which included Moses. Herod ordered the merciless death of all the little boys in and around Bethlehem causing Joseph and Mary to escape to Egypt with Jesus.
Second, both Moses and Jesus were rejected by their people. Moses’ leadership was repeatedly challenged, and his own brother and sister opposed him. Jesus was betrayed by His family, friends, and the entire nation.
Third, they were both law givers. Moses brought the Ten Commandments from God to his people. And Jesus shared the perfect law of love.
Fourth, both men became the deliverers of their people. Moses led the Israelites out of slavery in Egypt. Through His death and resurrection, Jesus delivers us from the bondage of sin.
Fifth, Moses was the intermediary between the Israelites and God, pleading on multiple occasions for God to show mercy on his people. Jesus is the one Mediator between God and man – the Man, Christ Jesus (1 Timothy 2:5).
This Christmas, remember the unity of the Bible. The shadows from the first and biggest half find their fulfillment in the second.
Merry Christmas!
