A New Way Home

“New Year’s Day is a good time to fix one’s eyes on the only One who knows what the year is to hold.” Elisabeth Elliot

GPS is a wonderful addition to modern life. Not only does it provide me with the best possible route to my destination, but when I make a wrong turn, take an erroneous exit, or become stuck in heavy traffic, a confident voice tells me how to find a new, best course to my journey’s end.

Drifting off course is all too easy, on the highway and in life. We all need help recognizing that we are headed in the wrong direction and finding our new, best route home.

God designed life with fresh starts every morning, each week and month, and yes, on New Year’s. As a new year begins, we have a special opportunity to assess our current course and start fresh on the new, best route to God’s desired destination for us.

From a jail cell, Paul wrote to the Philippians, “he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:6)

We cannot take too many wrong turns or drift so far off course that we elude God’s gracious care. His grace – greater than all our sin – will always provide a new, best direction. Start this New Year with a redirect onto the fastest roadway home to God.
