Locking Arms

Nº 429
Let those be thy choicest companions who have made Christ their chief companion. - Thomas Brooks
Sometimes it feels like we are all alone. The world is filled with people scoffing at the things of God, and those fighting against God’s standards are an overwhelming hoard.
That’s how Elijah felt. He was in a spiritual battle with an evil king and queen, hundreds of false prophets, and a culture that was eager to embrace immorality and violence.
The pressure got the best of him. He’d had enough, and he retreated for 40 days into the wilderness. On his lonely journey he asked God to take him home, out of the tension and turmoil of life.
Eventually, on the side of a desolate mountain, God unleashed a windstorm, earthquake, and fire but afterwards spoke to him in a gentle whisper. The resulting conversation led Elijah into new assignments and additional challenges.
That experience reminded Elijah of two things, first, God’s power and authority over the storms, earthquakes, and fires of life. And second, there were 7,000 others, just like him, who were resisting political, religious, and cultural apostasy.
Yet I reserve 7,000 in Israel who have not bowed the knee to Baal. (I Kings 19:18) Be courageous. You are not alone; trust God, and lock arms with those who stand with Him.
Excelsior,
Dan Bolin
