Test the Spirits

Nº 431
Blessed be the God's voice; for it is true, and falsehoods have to cease before it! - Thomas Carlyle
Throughout much of the Old Testament, the major nemeses of God’s people were the prophets of Baal. This false god of the Phoenicians was fashioned as the god of rain, lightning, and fertility. His prophets promoted the worst form of worship imaginable. For hundreds of years these prophets vied for the devotion of God’s people.
In the New Testament, the major opponents of God’s plan were the Pharisees and Sadducees. Several times Jesus warned, Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees. (Matthew 16:6) These were religious leaders who strictly enforced God’s law but failed to demonstrate God’s heart. Their religious activities promoted their interests rather than God’s.
Today, as in Bible times, we see ideologies and false religions that overtly opposed God’s rule. More subtly, we also see church leaders whose teachings are more in line with the world’s standards than God’s. John warned his readers, Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test every spirit to see whether they are from God. (1 John 4:1)
Don’t be enticed by modern day prophets of Baal or be seduced by today’s Pharisees and Sadducees. We must go back to the Bible, study its truth, and align ourselves with God’s design.
Excelsior,
Dan Bolin
