Truth without grace crushes people and ceases to be truth. Grace without truth deceives people and ceases to be grace. - Randy Alcorn
I listened to a very knowledgeable Bible teacher expound the scriptures and share deep spiritual truth. That part was great! Then he shifted gears and brutally attacked a fellow believer – another astute Bible teacher who held a different theological view. From where I stand, the first pastor was probably right on his theology but defiantly wrong in his attack.
John reminds us that grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1:17) Both grace and truth are important because one without the other leads to error, pride, or both.
In today’s technologically advanced world, it is easy to try to be the smartest person in the chat or the most knowledgeable person in the discussion. Knowing more and more is not a bad thing – but it can be. Our increased knowledge must be matched by a growing gracious spirit.
Peter’s last recorded words call us to grow each day in two areas: what we know about God and how we represent him to the world. Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. (2 Peter 3:18) The key word is AND.
Learn all you can about who God is, but hold that knowledge in hands of grace.
