Fuel for the Journey

Dan Bolin

Once more, never think that you can live to God by your own power or strength; but always look to and rely on him for assistance, yea, for all strength and grace. ~ David Brainard, Missionary to the Native Americans

Elijah experienced an amazing spiritual high. God hurled fire from heaven, Baal’s prophets were destroyed, and rain refreshed the parched ground. But Queen Jezebel was incensed. She issued his death warrant, forcing him to run for his life. He was exhausted, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

In the wilderness he collapsed under a small tree, begged God to take his life, and then fell into a fitful sleep. But God was not done with Elijah. He sent an angel with physical and spiritual food. The angel said, "Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you." So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that sustenance, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. (I Kings 19:7b-8) We all need refreshment, nourishment, and strength for the journey.

When jet fighters are on long journeys, under attack, or on critical missions, they cannot disengage for extended times of rest and relaxation. Instead, they refuel in flight!

Each week, RIF Ministries provides a refueling break from the pressures, routines, and at times attacks of life. Connect, tell your friends, and enjoy the spiritual refueling we all desire.
