God is the author of the Bible, and only the truth it contains will lead people to true happiness. A Christian should read this precious Book every day with earnest prayer and meditation. - George Muller
I enjoy reading or listening to great fiction – mysteries, adventure, whatever. At times, I become entangled in the plot of a well-written ‘whodunit,’ staying up late reading or listening because I want to know who the bad guy is and why he or she did it.
A made-up story with non-existent people in a make-believe land captures my attention. There’s a time and place for fiction, but we also need non-fiction. We need to know the difference between the made-up stories that come our way and reality.
Peter reminds his readers that what he is writing is not fiction but absolute, eye-witness truth. He said, For we did not follow cleverly devised myths when we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. (2 Peter 1:16)
Peter provides first-hand non-fiction accounts of Christ’s life and teaching in his epistles and through his influence on Mark and the gospel he produced.
Enjoy fiction, myths, and mysteries, but remember Peter’s continued thought regarding the ultimate non-fiction – the Bible. Men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:21)
