Blessed to Bless

One of our greatest rewards as Christians is to serve people. If the result is watching them draw closer to Christ through the Spirit’s blessing upon God’s Word and our efforts, what more could we possibly ask for? -Joel Beeke
Psalm 67 begins with a wishful prayer: “May God be gracious to us and bless us...” (Psalm 67:1). We would all say, “Amen” to that; we all want to be blessed. Receiving God’s favor is always a good thing.
My first response was, “Yes, I want God to bless me with health, wealth, comfortable relationships, and purpose in life.” Those blessings may be well and good, but verse two reveals the heart of the psalmist and made me rethink what a blessed life truly looks like: “...that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among the nations.” (Psalm 67:2)
My concept of a blessed life centered on me and my desires, but the psalmist had God’s work in mind. He understood that consuming God’s blessings for our own benefit is not God’s endgame. We are blessed to be a blessing to others.
Being blessed by God assumes that we are a conduit allowing God’s blessing to flow through us to others. In so doing God’s people will show God’s love and truth to everyone, everywhere – next door or around the world.
Don’t be a reservoir hoarding God’s blessing. Become a pipeline and allow God’s blessings to flow through you to others.
