I learned more about Christianity from my mother than from all the theologians in England. - John Wesley
Mother’s Day – in the United States and many parts of the world – is this Sunday. This year, May 10 is set aside to honor our mothers and thank them for their sacrifices to start us on the pathway of life. To show our appreciation, Mother’s Day is the busiest day of the year for restaurants. Each year, over $3 billion is spent on flowers, and over $1 billion is spent on Mother’s Day cards.
We all want to make our mothers happy on Mother’s Day. Cards, flowers, and restaurants have their place, but making mothers truly happy relies on something much more significant.
Proverbs 23:24 tells of a son who is both righteous and wise. He has demonstrated godly living and practical discernment. His life is filled with God-honoring behavior and exceptional decision making. These are the Mother’s Day gifts every mom desires: children who honor God and make wise decisions.
The next verse says, may your father and mother be glad; may she who gave you birth rejoice. (Proverbs 23:25) Take mom out to eat, buy her flowers, and get her a card. But mostly, live a life that honors God and make decisions that bring joy to her heart.
