No Warranty Required

Nº 425

I am His by purchase and I am His by conquest; I am His by donation and I am His by election; I am His by covenant and I am His by marriage; I am wholly His; I am peculiarly His; I am universally His; I am eternally His. - Thomas Brooks

Every time I buy an electrical device or household appliance, I am asked to purchase an extended warranty. This extra charge promises to replace the purchase if something goes wrong in the next few years.

I almost always decline, but the underlying reality is that everything we possess is going to break down sooner or later. We would all like things to last forever, but that’s just not how life works. Our world is filled with items that wear out, unravel, come undone, or fall apart.

Fortunately, there is no need for a warranty when it comes to God’s promises. As Peter opened his first epistle, he explained the wonderful benefits that Christians anticipate and the assurance of our eternal experience.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. To an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you. (1 Peter 1:3-4)

Rest assured, obsolescence itself has a shelf-life. An eternal inheritance awaits those of us who put our trust in Christ. It is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading – guaranteed.

Excelsior,
