70 Solar Circuits

Nº 208

weekly devotions to refresh your soul by Dr. Dan Bolin - July 26, 2022

Do all the good you can, By all the means you can, In all the ways you can, In all the places you can, At all the times you can, To all the people you can, As long as ever you can. - John Wesley

Lord willing, in a few days I will complete my 70th orbit around the sun!

I doubt that I catch Moses, who made 120 solar circuits, but I hope to learn a few things from his experience.

Moses wrote, “The length of our days is seventy years – or eighty if we have the strength.” (Psalm 90:10a) And he went on to say, “Teach us to number our days aright that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12).

The word ‘gain’ can be translated ‘harvest’. How we use our time today influences what we will produce tomorrow. Strategically utilizing every day allows us to harvest a heart of wisdom.

Today, instead of saying ‘number our days,’ we might use the phrase, ‘make each day count.’ Moses’ advice is to live strategically! Strategic living involves balancing three important activities:

  • Enjoying the beauty, peace, and pleasures God shares with us.

  • Employing the gifts, skills, and abilities He provides to serve Him well.

  • Examining the mysteries, hardships, and challenges that He sets before us to learn more about ourselves, our world, and God himself.

Fill each of your days enjoying, employing, and examining the gifts that God provides. And harvest a heart of wisdom.
