Perfect Recall

Yesterday, I returned from two weeks on the road with my brothers, visiting our childhood neighborhood, attending the church where we grew up, connecting with college friends, and sharing meals with cousins. It was a wonderful adventure.


One surprise was my forgetfulness. My brothers recalled events from 50 or 60 years ago of which I have no recollection. Amazingly, I have vivid memories of events that one or both brothers had forgotten. Some memories were delightful; others, not so much!


We are a forgetful people. Ironically, the Bible reminds us over and over to not forget!


Invading Babylonians had defeated Jeremiah’s country. Jerusalem was destroyed, the Temple ransacked, their economy in shambles, many people were killed, and many more deported to Babylon. Jeremiah poured out his heart to the Lord for two and a half chapters, and then a ray of hope burst onto the pages.


He records, “Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” (Lamentations 3:21-23)


Despite the pain and problems of this world, never forget the Lord’s great love, compassion, and never-ending faithfulness!
