Lost Forever

“Forgiveness transcends finite human reason. The mere thought that one’s entire sin account can be utterly eradicated is staggering. Yet it is quite clear that the forgiveness of sins strikes at the very core of human need and experience. It speaks of guilt gone, remorse removed, depression disappearing, and emptiness of life eradicated. What power there is in forgiveness! And it all comes abundantly from the gracious hand of God.” - Lewis Drummond

Apparently, a bag containing several pieces of critical evidence was lost. While transporting the items from the storage room to the Texas courthouse, the bag was mistaken for trash and ended up who knows where!

The error led to lots of finger pointing on the prosecutor’s side, but the man accused of murder could not have been happier! The crucial – and possibly condemning – evidence upon which the case was built was gone, never to be seen again.

There is no shortage of incriminating evidence linking us to wretched actions and self-centered attitudes. If used against us, this would certainly lead to our eternal judgment.

But God!

David knew the joy and relief of God forgiving his heinous crimes and having his legal record expunged. He proclaimed the hope of his life and ours: “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.” (Psalm 103:12)

As we move into Holy Week, we are reminded that our sins have not been misplaced; they have been removed for good. Jesus’ death on Good Friday wiped our record clean. His resurrection on Easter morning provides us freedom, power, and hope of new life in Him.
