“The Son of God became a man to enable men to become sons of God." C.S. Lewis

Red lights flashed and sirens wailed as six motorcycles – then 12 large black cars –roared past. Someone significant was in a hurry, and it was clear we were to keep our distance.

I later learned that Vice President Mike Pence was the VIP on the move; it was his motorcade that had caused the excitement. Protection, communication, emergency medical support, administrative staff, and reporters were all a part of his entourage. No one dared get too close.

Things were different 2,000 years ago. No flashing lights, no motorcade or armed escort. Just a star, some shepherds, Mary and Joseph, and, oh yes, a choir of angels. Luke records, “ Suddenly, a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests .’” (Luke 2:13-14)

Instead of loud sirens warning people to move away, the King of Kings arrived with a heavenly choir inviting lowly shepherds – and all of us – to come near and meet the Savior of the world.

Draw close to Jesus this Christmas. And join the chorus of those inviting others to come and worship the newborn King.
